A drop off location was established at Centre 2000 over five days where residents could donate their empty beverage containers. Rock 97 was 'on location' on the first day to promote the fundraiser and Recycle Plus staff were there to manage the donations. This effort was so well received that the trailer was filled on the first day and needed to be exchanged for second one!
The radio station continued to promote the event on-air and on-site and by the fifth day that trailer and a third was also filled.
The staff of Recycle Plus all agreed to work on their day off to sort the containers and donate their time to the effort as long as the money for their pay was donated. Recycle Plus responded by matching the wages in contribution dollars to the fundraiser. Roseneau Transport donated the use of the trailers for the drop off as well as the cartage fees received for transporting the goods to Edmonton.
In total almost $20,000 was raised in this one heroic campaign. The Red Cross is eligible to receive matching Federal monies so the campaign will net almost $40,000 to the relief effort in Haiti.
